I SOLISTI
DEL SAN CARLO
(THE SAN CARLO SOLOISTS)
Martucci/Longo - Naples between two centuries
The
disc contains two quintets with piano: one is rarely performed,
which is in do major Op. 45 composed by Giuseppe Martucci,
and the other composed by Achille Longo, performed for the
first time ever in the world.
The first volume of a series of recordings intended to diffuse
and promote chamber music by Neapolitan composers of the Eighteen
and Nineteen hundreds.
If we keep in mind that the first composition dates back to
1878 and the second to 1934, it will appear clear that more
than half a century passed between these two musical compositions,
which gives extraordinary importance to the city of Naples
and to its very vigorous musical life.

I
SOLISTI DEL SAN CARLO
(THE SAN CARLO SOLOISTS)
Founded
in 1982 the String Quartet has received great support from
critics and public.
Composers like Mario Zanfred and Marcello Piani have dedicated
their chamber music works to the ensemble.
They were invited to the International Festival in Linz, Austria,
Festival
J. Brahms in Ischia, Teatro Rossini in Pesaro, Manzoni in
Milano, Sala Dei Giganti in Padova, Teatro dellOpera
in Rome. Abroad: Nice, Montecarlo, Ginevra, Rabat, Casablanca,
Ankara, Amsterdam, Matricht, Athens, etc.
They recorded Haydn "Seven last words of Christ"
which was positively received by critics. They recorded S.
Montuoisi "Four Vibrations" for Penthafon
and for the first time in the world Fenaroli "Stabat
Mater" for Nuova Era.
Alexandra Brucher received her Piano diploma in Bucarest under
the guidance of Master Paladi to then perfect herself in Italy
with Masters Piero Rattalino, Carlo Bruno and Aldo Ciccolini.
She has won a number of national
and international competitions. She permanently collaborates
with the San Carlo Soloists.
I
applaud the initiative of the Solisti del San Carlo (San Carlo
Soloists) in promoting the diffusion of chamber music by Neapolitan
composers of the eighteen and nineteen-hundreds.
Apart from Giuseppe Martuccis most famous Quintet, it
is really a worthy endeavour to have recorded Achille Longos
remarkable Quintet, composer who, branched out, and descends
from the noble Martucci trunk and, by sidestepping general
preference for melodrama, dedicated himself to the neglected
composition of instrumental and chamber music which brought
new
light to Naples in the nineteen-hundreds. We hope that this
initiative will give us more knowledge and recordings able
to enrich us with new historical information, as well as to
encourage chamber music programs to include these works which
have been forgotten over
time but are worthy of being performed.
